Whether you’re adjusting your network for personal or business needs, configuring your router settings can optimise your connection.
Below you’ll find screenshots and advice on how to make common changes, including logging into the router, changing the wireless channel, updating your network name and password and enabling port forwarding.
These guides will help you tailor your router’s setup to suit your unique needs.
How to log in to your Technicolor router
Before you can make any changes to your Technicolor router, you’ll need to sign in to the Technicolor site.
- Connect a PC/laptop directly to the router using an ethernet cable
- Open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar
- Sign in to the Technicolor page
- Username: admin
- Password: serial number (on the bottom of the router)
Changing your wireless channel
Once logged in, click on ‘Wireless’.
Use the drop-down box to specify a WiFi channel you want to use – if you have two access points (2.4GHz and 5GHz), you may need to do this on both channels. You can select them from the left-hand side of the screen.
Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the most popular channels as they don’t overlap. But it may be a case of trial and error to find the best channel for your local network.
Changing your wireless name and password
Once logged in, click on ‘Wireless’.
From here you can change the wireless name (SSID name) and the password (Wireless Password).
If you have two wireless bands – 2.4GHz and 5GHz – you’ll need to do this for both of them.
Technicolor port forwarding
Please note: We advise running through this configuration using a Windows-based PC/laptop with an ethernet connection to the router. If you’re using any other operating system or connecting via wireless then settings may not save correctly.
If you got a block of public IP addresses from us, they will need to be configured on your router.
Open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
This should then bring up the Technicolor page. You’ll need to click ‘Sign in’ at the top right.
You should then see the below sign-in screen.
You’ll need to log in using the below details:
- Username: admin
- Password: serial number (this is on the bottom of the router and starts with CP)
Once you’re logged in, click into the ‘WAN Services’ box.
To add a port forwarding rule, click ‘Add new port mapping’.
You’ll need to complete the following fields:
- Name: Anything to describe the port forwarding rule
- Protocol: This is either going to be TCP, UDP, TCP/UDP
- WAN Port: The WAN-facing port you’re forwarding from (ranges can be added by separating the numbers with a colon, e.g. 5000:6000)
- LAN Port: The LAN-facing port you’re forwarding to (ranges can be added by separating the numbers with a colon, e.g. 5000:6000)
- Destination IP: The IP of the device you’re forwarding traffic to
Once you’ve added all the information, click the ‘add’ button on the right.
