IoT (internet of things)
Connect and manage your devices seamlessly
Keep your devices connected and manage them from a single portal with IoT, no matter where they are, from CCTV cameras and payment terminals to lifts and digital signage.
What is IoT?
The internet of things (IoT) connects devices so they can share data with each other and your systems without anyone needing to be involved.
IoT uses SIM cards and mobile networks but it isn’t the same as a mobile phone service. It’s built for devices rather than people, connecting everything from CCTV cameras, lifts and vehicles to smart watches, sensors and appliances.
What can you do with IoT?
Activate, monitor and troubleshoot every device remotely from one platform, keeping your estate running smoothly and reducing your costs.
What our IoT solutions give you
What to expect with IoT solutions
Multi-network stability
Connect to the strongest available network at start-up, and hold a stable connection. If the signal is lost, your device rescans for an alternative network1
1 Depending on the device
Flexible data usage
Aggregate all your data into a shared pool, avoiding separate usage caps, and take advantage of flexible tariffs and tailored data tiers
Built-in security
Secure data routing options such as private static IP & IPSec VPN and secure remote access to devices via SSL VPN and private APNs by default or remote access proxy
Real-time management
Stay in control with an easy-to-use, real-time management portal that lets you view and manage usage and security settings across all your devices
Ready for January’s PSTN switch-off?
The UK’s traditional analogue landline network will be switched off for good in January 2027.
Our team of experts help you prepare for the change, assessing if you’ve got internet connectivity, phone systems and IoT devices (like fax machines, alarms and lifts) that may cease to function, making it simple for you to get ready before the switch happens so you don’t experience any gaps in service.
IoT FAQs
Do my devices need an IoT SIM or a mobile broadband SIM?
A mobile broadband SIM is built for people to access the internet. An IoT SIM is built for people to manage devices. IoT SIMs give you remote management, security controls like IMEI locking and private routing, and pooled data across your whole estate, so you can keep every device connected and under control.
Can it work across different locations and countries?
Yes, it’s easy to use across regions and countries, as our IoT operates over networks with standardised global protocols and adheres to international standards. You’ll even get reliable coverage across elevations and infrastructure, thanks to our combination of 4G / 5G broadband, LTE-M and NB-IoT radio technologies.
Is it easy for us to scale devices and data?
Yes, it’s easy to scale your data and devices – with flexible data and tariffs, plus a real-time management portal that makes it simple for you to stay in charge, ensuring you’re only ever paying for what you need. This means you can keep your costs down but your business flexible, no matter your deployment needs, budgets or changes in usage.
Do I need specialist IT knowledge to use IoT?
No, many IoT solutions are designed to be straightforward to deploy and manage, so that you can monitor devices, track usage and manage connections without building a specialist in-house team. However, if you need additional support, our IT Support and Professional Services can assist with day-to-day management, issue resolution, or even IoT implementation projects and strategies.
Do you offer solutions specific to my sector?
Yes, we’ll start by getting to know your team and objectives before we help scope, design and scale the right solution, with agile, dedicated support every step of the way. We support sectors including:
- Retail: supply chain optimisation, automated checkouts, smart inventory management
- Manufacturing: human-to-robot collaboration, remote and predictive maintenance, digital twinning
- Healthcare: remote patient monitoring, disease management, on-the-move triage
- Entertainment/media: live broadcast and on-site event operations
- Financial services: mobile banking and wearable devices, remote tellers, personalised AI financial assistants
- Energy: smart buildings, street lighting, energy grids, remote management of renewable energy equipment, hazard and maintenance sensing
- Mobility and transport: vehicle-to-vehicle communication, predictive maintenance and monitoring, smart traffic control
How do you keep my devices and data secure?
Choose from a full suite of secure routing options, including IPsec VPN, SSL VPN using private static IP addresses, remote access proxy and L2TP. You can also lock SIMs to their device with IMEI locking, use private APNs, and decide exactly where your devices can connect with whitelisting and blacklisting at network level.
